Dear Mr. John,
I’m sorry to bother you but I was wondering if you could settle an internal argument of mine?
When I was a kid (little red headed 7/8 year old probably) I went on holiday and stayed at the Sanibel Harbour resort (would have been back in the 90’s). Now, am I going mad or were you performing some days – or even one day – by the pool? I vividly remember sitting on the steps in the pool watching you and loving every second of your songs – specifically “Sanibel Harbour Sunset” (which I think you wrote anyway even if it wasn’t you performing – in which case this is just a kudos email to say that song is wicked), the lyrics and tune I still remember to this day. Even more: you gave me a tape of yours, which I played non-stop for about a year.
I have always remembered this music and I think you have such a beautiful voice, even though I am now a rock chick at heart I still sing “Sanibel Harbour sunset” every now and then. It would be wonderful if you could reply and set my mind at rest after ALL these years!
Thank you!
Best wishes,
Katey Grant
| Hello!
Wow, that’s amazing – I can’t believe I found you! Seriously, I have always remembered you and your music, I was always a little performer and went on to sing in several bands (as well as in choirs and stuff) and I am currently in a band – we are still kind of feeling our way into the genre of music which we like but some of our tunes are quite catchy. We haven’t performed yet, still building up our set list. My family is somewhat split up now really, the parental units that took me to the resort are divorced now with my mum living in Africa and goodness knows what became of the other unit, but never mind. As a day job – I work in an office doing lots of different things, very boring and I would sooner your glamorous life of stage and song. Music is love and truth, you are completely right. I need my music like air and you really helped influence me in that way because I saw that you were doing something you loved and it was so beautiful and your voice is just magnificent. I’ve been watching videos of you on Youtube and reminiscing, I honestly didn’t think you would remember the weird little red-headed girl who sat and listened in the pool. Oh, I think you covered the Dobie Grey song (Drift away?) and I still listen to and adore that song.
I would absolutely love it if you would send me that song, I can’t seem to find it on the internet – except in America. It would be deeply appreciated and yes, now you mention it, I do remember you saying about your auntie – that’s an amazing thing to remember!
Anyway – I don’t want to keep you from your adoring fans! I hope you knock ‘em dead in your concerts (I’m sure you will!) and I hope that my writing is further proof of your talent and your beauty in their ability to touch other peoples lives and memories! Thank you so much for writing back! Good luck!
Many, many best wishes!
Katey
